This morning I read on Miraz' blog that 91% of New Zealand’s birds and 35% of its marine mammals are endangered due to climate change. Those statistics are frightening.
I wanted to leave a comment on her post, but felt I had way more than 300 characters to say. I could write pages criticizing people, politicians, religious institutions and the meat industry… I could write an essay on my frustration at the generalized inaction.

I’ve been blogging on and off since the early 2000’s. I’ve blogged about linux, going to university, movies, programming, photography, moving to Rio de Janeiro, moving to Sweden, moving to Spain, gardening, traveling, learning to play the piano, learning to sew, learning esperanto…
Sadly, none of those blogs are alive today and I think the main reason is I was misguided by the idea that “you need a niche”. I tried to put all the things I enjoyed in my life into tiny individual boxes.

When I was a kid, I once looked up while walking on a street in my hometown Recife, and I noticed some numbers at the very top of an old building. 1908. The year of the construction. That was game-changing for me.
Most people look down when walking. They spend their lives looking at the floor when they should be looking up to the tall buildings, the historical curiosities, the birds flying above our heads, the first signs of spring.
