Piano progress: 1 month

To start my piano journey, I opted for Faber Adult Piano Adventures books, rather than the ubiquitous Alfred's. The reason being, Alfred focuses too much on left hand chords and (very ugly and outdated) pop music, and Faber focuses on hand independence and classical music. I know that if I start with classical and sheet music, I'll be able to play anything in the future!

So far, this first month has been HUMBLING. I thought "I'm such a smart girl, for sure I'll get ultra advanced, ultra fast". But no. Turns out, it's much harder than I thought to coordinate both hands, learn to read music, to count beats, to feel the rhythm. Alas, I'm a child again.

Week 1

Week 2

Feeling like a genius. Piano is just too easy. Tackled three pieces in a week!

Week 3

Things got insanely hard. Only worked on one piece and my fingers seem physically incapable of playing any faster.

One month!

What a milestone! At this point, I was practicing 1 to 2 hours a day. My favorite piece up until now is Half-time band!

These videos were originally published on youtube and an older blog between late Jan. and early Feb. 2021. I'm republishing this in April 2026 and backdating the post, to keep my piano progress posts chronological.
