The Rain is Drizzling, Anatoly Alexandrov
I learned this as part of the piano beginners' course at Piano Career Academy (online self-paced course). This is piece no. 93 in the Russian School of Piano Playing method book.
At first, the structure of the piece, the detached notes, the alternating hands, it all felt really overwhelming and I almost gave up on piano entirely! 😱
It took me a couple weeks to gather the courage to start working on it... and now I can honestly say I was overreacting.
Learning this piece was not more challenging than any other piece. I'm really glad I persisted, because I think this piece taught me a few lessons about piano practice! I "knew" how I had to practice, I just wasn't really doing it... This piece is the one that forced me to break it down and focus only on a couple measures at a time, practicing really slooow :)
Anatoly Alexandrov (1888 — 1982) was a Russian/Soviet pianist and composer. Here's a (short) biography. The sheet music for this piece is in the method book Russian School of Piano Playing book 1 part II (Hal Leonard).
