What to do when you have too many personal photos?
Help, I have over 120k personal photos in my hard drive. I am overwhelmed by trying to organize, keyword, and find a way to see them, to share them. In the past I have created:
- Printed albums for our trips: beautiful result but too time consuming (and too expensive too, I’m not gonna lie).
- Online galleries: no one looks at them apart from me.
- Instagram stories and carousels: people spend 2 seconds on it and they are off to the next great thing; also, not everyone gets to see my images, as IGs algo is notorious for hiding what you want to see, and showing you more of what it wants you to buy.
- This blog: me, the sole publisher and reader.
- Quick slideshows to put on TV and watch during the weekend: time consuming but very fun if I manage to get it done right after coming home from a trip.
Yesterday I had a lightbulb moment: maybe a traditional, old-fashioned photo album is what I need?! 🎞️

I have created a Prints folder on Dropbox, and will start dumping camera and smartphone shots that I like in it. Photos of my dogs, a selfie, a day trip, the milky way, sushi, everything. If I like the photo, I will dump it in the folder. Once 20 or more photos are in, I’ll send everything to an online minilab, print as 10x15cm images, and put them in a traditional photo album. Delete contents from Prints folder and start over.
We’ll see how this goes!
